Catering Associate

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL ACTIVE UC MERCED STUDENTS (INCLUDING FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE).
 
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 employees are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States (a list of acceptable documents to establish eligibility can be found here)

Description:
Lakeside Catering is the campus caterer and provides various types of services for the campus community and external clients. We are currently recruiting students to work with our team. We are looking for highly motivated students who are punctual, responsible, and eager to learn. Through employment with Lakeside Catering, you will gain complementary skills that are necessary for any future career endeavors. 
Job Responsibilities Include:

• Report to work in required uniform ensuring it is clean and presentable.
• Assist Dining Kitchen Staff, primarily Cooks and Chefs, in food preparation
• Cooking will be required with the supervision of Cooks and Chefs and will depend upon the daily orders
• Travel may be required for certain events, especially plated meals or large banquet dinners
• Food safety knowledge must be extensive and standards must be upheld at all times
• Monitor cooking and safe holding temperatures for all food produced
• Keep work areas clean, sanitized and organized at all times
• Safe knife usage will be required and training will be provided as well as equipment training as needed
• Food Handler Certification is required
• Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
*Student Caterer position must possess a Valid CA Driver’s License and have at least 1 year driving experience*
• All dining staff must be friendly, professional, driven and customer service savvy (a good communicator!).
• 1 year of food service experience is preferred, however it is not mandatory.
• Student Employees will be trained in all aspects of a Food Facility including Food Safety practices, safe work behaviors, etc.
• Food Handler Certification is preferred.
Must commit to a minimum of 12 hours/week or equivalent of 3 shifts up to a maximum of 18 hours. Must be willing to provide management with updated availabilities per Dining’s scheduling software.
Students with a valid CA driver’s license may be required to operate a Dining Services vehicle on occasion. Student s must have a valid CA driver’s license to operate Dining Services vehicles. (Truck, Van, Carts) Employees will be required to pass a general food safety quiz.

Special Circumstances: A background check may be required upon employment.
