SJVP+/ Pre-Health Admissions Assistant - Student Asst 2

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL ACTIVE UC MERCED STUDENTS (INCLUDING FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE). 

Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 employees are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States (a list of acceptable documents to establish eligibility can be found here).

Misconduct Disclosure Requirement: As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts a conditional offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; received notice of any allegations or are currently the subject of any administrative or disciplinary proceedings involving misconduct; have left a position after receiving notice of allegations or while under investigation in an administrative or disciplinary proceeding involving misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of misconduct with a previous employer.

a. “Misconduct” means any violation of the policies or laws governing conduct at

the applicant’s previous place of employment, including, but not limited to,

violations of policies or laws prohibiting sexual harassment, sexual assault, or

other forms of harassment, discrimination, dishonesty, or unethical conduct, as

defined by the employer. For reference, below are UC’s policies addressing some

forms of misconduct:

Pay Range: $16.50 - $19.32

Description:

The Office of Admissions exists to provide guidance and support to prospective students and their parents, educators, counselors and the general public as we recruit, admit and cultivate a student body that characterizes the University of California, Merced’s Principles of Community. In partnership with UCSF/ UCSF Fresno on medical education initiatives, UC Merced collaborates on addressing the future physician workforce needs and communities' unmet health and health care needs in the San Joaquin Valley. 

Housed under the Office of Admissions, the SJV PRIME+ / Pre-health Admissions Assistant supports recruitment and community outreach efforts dedicated to promoting pre-health and pre-med opportunities at UC Merced. The Assistant will help potential students and families differentiate between broader pre-health and more specific San Joaquin Valley pre-med routes in partnership with UCSF / UCSF Fresno. 

The SJV PRIME+ / Pre-health Admissions Assistant, like Student Ambassadors, serves as a liaison between UC Merced and the community, and provide first-hand knowledge about their own UCM experience, and the academic opportunities and resources available to students and families at UC Merced.

Qualifications:

The Office of Admissions is seeking highly motivated and dedicated UC Merced students who are strong leaders and excited to share their UC Merced experience with prospective students and their families, educators, counselors and the public. We encourage students of all backgrounds, life experiences, and majors to apply. 

Requirements: 

  • Must be a currently enrolled UC Merced student and have at least one semester completed prior to applying. 
  • Ability to interact and engage with wide range of students (i.e., ethnicity, age, etc.) 
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills. 
  • Have a flexible class/work schedule to accommodate campus walk-ins, visits, and events. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. 
  • Strong customer-service skills: have a positive, helpful, “can-do” attitude. 
  • Maintain confidentiality with respect to student records and other office information. 
  • Must have reliable transportation. 
  • Successfully clear a LiveScan and DMV pull notice by UC Merced Police Department 
  • Must be available to attend mandatory weekly meetings. 
  • Must be available to attend all training sessions and retreats throughout the year. 
  • Must commit to working a full academic year. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge/willingness to learn about UC Merced programs, resources and admission requirements, with specific attention to supporting potential pre-health, pre-med students. 
  • Knowledge and/or interest in San Joaquin Valley, central California, health disparities 
  • Involvement in UC Merced STEM and/or pre-health student clubs and organizations. 
  • Able to work independently under light supervision. 
  • Dependable, outgoing, and enthusiastic. 
  • Problem-solver, critical thinker and self-starter. 
  • Prior experience working with underserved and first-generation students.
