Description:
The UC Merced Community Engagement Center (CEC) is located at the heart of campus - Kolligian Library 190 and connects students, faculty, and staff to the greater Merced community through community service and leadership programs that promote reciprocal partnerships, consciousness of self, and academic success.
The One-Time Service Student Assistant supports the coordination of one-time service opportunities for students through volunteer recruitment, communication, and follow-up. This position helps identify and coordinate service opportunities offered throughout the academic year and manages many of the logistical details necessary for successful volunteer experiences. Responsibilities include supporting partnerships with campus and community organizations, promoting service opportunities, maintaining volunteer records and participation data, and coordinating volunteer communications to ensure participants receive timely information and are prepared for their service experiences.
This position also supports select evening and weekend programs, including monthly Public Service Announcements and other special events as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Community Engagement Center Coordinator to identify, coordinate, and promote volunteer service opportunities for students.
- Connect with community partners to learn about volunteer needs and help coordinate student involvement at community events and projects.
- Assist with planning and managing logistics for one-time service events and volunteer opportunities.
- Help ensure service opportunities are posted and promoted across all communication platforms, including the service calendar and other outreach channels.
- Support student volunteer recruitment, registration, event reminders, and follow-up communication.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer participation, service hours, and other program data using Excel and other tracking systems.
- Assist with Catlife platform by reviewing and approving student volunteer service hours as needed.
- Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating monthly Public Service Announcements (PSAs), which require attendance at one evening event each month.
- Attend weekly team meetings and contribute ideas to support outreach efforts, programs, and center initiatives.
- Provide occasional support for evening and weekend service events and special programs.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Excel, Canva, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with data tracking and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to anticipate needs, plan ahead, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students and community partners.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Passion for community service, civic engagement, or service learning.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Must have and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA etc.
