Dining Student Custodian - Student Asst 1

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL ACTIVE UC MERCED STUDENTS (INCLUDING FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE).
 
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 employees are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States (a list of acceptable documents to establish eligibility can be found here)

PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION: On Campus
 
Description:
The Student Custodian will provide cleaning support to the Dining operations during the day within operational hours and responsibilities include the follow but are not limited to:
• Maintain all trash receptacles in the front of the house, restrooms and any private rooms/meeting spaces, following proper procedure for removing waste from the facility
• Keep all floors in Dining front of the house and restrooms swept and mopped as needed and per standard cleaning practices, vacuum and/or sweep any private meeting rooms as needed
• Clean all glass, including the doors and sneeze guards periodically ensuring they are sanitized and presentable for customers at all times
• Check restroom facilities periodically to ensure they are clean and restock supplies as needed
• Clean and sanitize all high touch surfaces periodically as per guidelines for campus and department
• Assist Dining Staff in cleaning front of the house, restrooms and any private rooms as needed to ensure satisfactory guest experience
• Following proper trash removal process, ensure trash is removed from the operation in a timely manner to ensure food safety and placed in trash compactor which is also maintained as needed
• Participate in all departmental training to ensure proper procedure and safety
• Communicate to Dining Staff, taking direction as needed while working alongside them in the Dining operations
• Communicate to the on shift Custodial Lead and Custodian Supervisor as needed, taking direction from them as they are in the operations periodically
• Report any issues with operations that impact the ability to do the job properly to Custodial Lead or Custodian Supervisor in a timely manner
• Follow procedures for properly opening and closing the operation, ensuring that the next shift is set up for success
• Have knowledge of proper chemical usage for completing tasks and never use any chemicals or equipment if you are not properly trained to use it
• Understand safety procedures for your operation and ability to communicate to others as needed
• Treat all guests and workers with respect and be a team player
• Greet customers while working in the Dining operations and provide assistance as needed, even if it is communicating to the proper person that can help them
• As needed, provide direction to guests in the operation, especially for larger groups
• Use duster to clean all surfaces in the front of the house operation periodically, being careful of cross contamination
• Clear, clean and sanitize all tables, chairs and counters periodically in the Dining front of the house operation, ensuring they are clean and available for customers at all times
• Clear any trash or debris from entrances of the Dining operation as needed

Qualifications:
 Qualifications:
• Must be a UC Merced student with at least 2 years left before graduating
• Good balance of coursework so that you can commit to at least 14-18 hours per week
• Flexible schedule working before, after or in between classes as well as weekends and some Holidays such as Presidents’ Day
• Ability to take direction and adhere to training guidelines
• Positive attitude, team player
• Ability to work independently
