Lantern Café Associate - Student Asst 2

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL ACTIVE UC MERCED STUDENTS (INCLUDING FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE). 
 
Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 employees are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States (a list of acceptable documents to establish eligibility can be found here)

PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION: On Campus
 
Description:
A part of Dining Retail Services, The Lantern Cafe is located at the heart of campus in our Kolligian Library on the ground floor. Open to Students, Faculty, Staff and Guests alike, the Cafe offers a variety of gourmet coffees and light but hearty food options daily.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Complete understanding of menu offerings and ability to serve them in a friendly, quick and efficient manner
• Stock Café with menu items as necessary, with direction from Lantern Lead and student supervisors
• Work as cashier with proficiency and accuracy for all forms of payment and University funds
• Provide excellent customer service to all customers
• Maintain proper food safety standards at all times
• Keep Cafe and work area cleaned and sanitized appropriately as to Food Safety Standards
• Complete understanding of setup and breakdown procedures at the Café
• Transport of items from location in golf cart may be required if you have a Valid Driver's License
• Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
• Previous cafe experience is highly encouraged for this position or similar
• Must have a valid Driver's License as position requires driving departmental golf card
• Must have reliable transportation to and from campus for early morning shifts
• Must be a UC Merced student with at least 2 years left before graduating
• Good balance of coursework so that you can commit to at least 14-18 hours per week (maximum hours per week are likely but not guaranteed for this position)
• Flexible schedule working before, after or in between classes as well as weekends and some Holidays such as Presidents’ Day
• Ability to take direction and adhere to training guidelines
• Positive attitude, team player
• Ability to work independently

*Will receive Food Handler Certification upon employment
