Student Technology Consultant - Web Developer - Student Asst 3 (FWS)

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO FEDERAL WORK STUDY ELIGIBLE, ACTIVE UC MERCED STUDENTS ONLY.

Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 employees are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States (a list of acceptable documents to establish eligibility can be found here).

PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION: On Campus

Description:

As part of the Enterprise Application Services team, you will be working on supporting and developing features for the OIT web services team. Some applications you may work with include Merced ID, Acceptance Application Portal, and the Campus Directory. You will write React components, work with TypeScript, and use Tailwind to style our applications. This will happen through translating designs and wireframes into high-quality code, writing tests, improving accessibility, and collaborating with the team to build our applications and internal component library. Related responsibilities will include collaborating on services like GitHub/Slack, working on deployment pipelines, and related utilities.

Qualifications:

Computer Science or related major * - Sophomore through senior standing * - In good academic standing - Available to work 10-15 hours per week - Familiar with fundamental coding concepts like variables, loops, functions, etc. - Able to demonstrate good problem solving and critical thinking skills - Ability and willingness to work with remote teammates - Eagerness to learn and incorporate constructive feedback from others - Communication skills with a willingness to ask questions, actively listen and work within a team - Knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript or frontend frameworks is a plus - Strong writing and editing skills - Comfortable with working on multiple projects simultaneously - Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines - Comfortable working with staff and faculty as well as students - Strong time management skills, organizational skills, punctuality, and attention to detail are critical * Previous coding experience may supersede this requirement
